Intro Stuff
I have senior level experience in tweaking the idea a bit, updating the copy, adding a bit of pop, managing expectations, filling out timesheets, finding the beer trolley, "combining a bit from idea 1 with a bit from idea 2 and 3”, and reading your email before you get to my desk to tell me about the email you sent.
Work Stuff
I'm an Associate Creative Director with 17 years experience across a broad range of brands and disciplines; From TV to digital, experiential through to activation. I've been fortunate enough to work with some of the worlds biggest brands at a global and local level. I love ideas driven by purpose, whether it's a campaign that redefines culture, a world first innovation or just a leaflet that catches someone’s attention, purpose is what apply to everything I do. I'm an Art Director by trade but I also know quite a few words, which I use to write copy.
Interesting Stuff
I used to be an actor, albeit a shit one. I once auditioned for a movie with Ryan Reynolds. OK so maybe not ‘with’ but he was in the movie and I did not get the part(Shit actor). As a kid, everyone assumed I knew martial arts, definitely a stereotype, nevertheless I thought it was cool so I became a black belt in TaeKwon-do. I don’t train anymore but sometimes I get drunk and put my uniform on for my friends and tell them about that time I was a black belt. I moved to the UK for a couple years in 2013, five and a half 'couple' years later I become a UK Resident and global citizen, just in time for Brexit.
Stuff People Said
Mike is a funny, curious and outgoing creative who puts a lot of love into his work. We collaborated on Dove at Havas and tackled various digital campaigns together. He has a brilliant laugh and smile and always has surprising answers to any brief.
Mike's one of those guys i truly valued in my team. His tenacity, creativity and energy, meant that whatever the brief, whatever the timings and whatever the media, he delivered ideas we were always proud of. And, If you can forgive the occasional bad 90's pop song, Mike also brings a huge amount of fun to the department too. He has an infectious laugh and personality and was a driving force of the culture that kept us all going. I'd happily hire Mike again and sincerely hope that one day I get that opportunity.
First off, Michael is a pleasure to work with. He has shown time and time again his dedication and competency in producing outstanding work and regularly puts his hand up to volunteer for projects. He thrives on a high level of autonomy to come up with great ideas, but has also proven himself under pressure-cooker type deadlines. He also has a great sense of humour and is very popular with his peers. Michael will go far in his career and would be a real asset for any prospective creative agency. I would have no problem recommending him for further positions that can take advantage of his skill set.
I had the pleasure of working with Mike while I was ECD at JWT New Zealand. My tenure in that position was from mid-2008 until late-2011. When I joined JWT, we were a small agency, just around 25 members of staff. That meant we all had to roll up our sleeves and toil at the coalface. Luckily, when Mike came on board he fitted in straight away and was never one to back down from a challenge – of which there were many. Subsequently, I worked with Mike for about a year and he was always utterly reliable, always offered fresh thinking on client briefs, created pro-active ideas for non-existent briefs…and always with a smile. Not only has Mike a great eye for detail, he always made the ideas sing. You can’t ask for much more than that. Given the chance, it would be a pleasure to work with Mike again.
Mike has worked with us at The Shopping Channel for six months in a period of intense change. He was responsible for re-creating our on-line shopping look and feel which included development of an all new user interface including aspects of information design and total user experience. He also led a small team of designers and front end developers in the ideation and development of daily communication pieces and of course the site re-build process which has helped us to achieve a far stronger, cohesive shopping experience. Mike's been an extremely valued and popular member of our team and will be an asset wherever he ends up.
Mike is a very handsome boy with loads of skills and talents. Always did his chores, loves eating snacks, and listening to loud angry music.
